The Vegetarian Triathlon is a friendly event which has been designed for all fitness levels, ages and interests. Our aim is for participants to enjoy and push themselves in a safe, fun and supportive environment. It is a unique event where serious athletes participate alongside novices and everyone is a winner.

Date: 6th March 2011, 3pm (arrive at 1.30pm for registration)

Venue: QE2 Park, Burwood, Christchurch, New Zealand

Cost: $50 (inc t-shirt)
$30 unwaged/students.
For those who already have last year's t-shirt, $35.

Please note that wearing our t-shirt is mandatory during the event.

Age Requirements

Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Younger vegetarians may participate with the signed consent of their legal guardians (see registration form). Participants under the age of 16 are expected to have a named adult to ensure their safe involvement in the triathlon. The triathlon organisers cannot look after or supervise them.

Younger children may participate with their parents on cycle carriers or on foot for the run event. They are at all times the responsibility of their parents. Children participating with participating parents must also be registered but do not have to pay a registration fee.

Vegetarian requirements

All participants will be expected to have been vegetarian for a minimum of one calendar month before the triathlon. In 2011 this will be from Waitangi Day, 6 February.  Please note that the definition of vegetarian is 'someone who excludes all meat and meat by products from their diet'. This includes chicken, fish, shellfish, gelatin and cheeses containing animal rennet.

We are not the 'vegetarian police' and so take you on your word that you have the vegetarian credentials to participate in the triathlon.

Post Event Dinner at Krishna's Cafe

Vegetarian triathlon participants, volunteers and their friends are invited to the post event celebratory dinner at 6pm. Seats at the dinner must be prebooked as numbers are limited. You will need to be able to make your way from QEII to town for this dinner. Spot prizes will be awarded at this celebration. Diners will order their own meals and drinks and be responsible for paying for what they have ordered.  We will give you more details about the menu nearer to the event. All meals are vegan.

Spot Prizes

Please let us know if you can help approach donors for spot prizes. These will be given at the post-triathlon dinner. Donors will be thanked on the website.
